Windows Installer is a software from Microsoft that provides an efficient and safe technology to install, repair, and uninstall applications under the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Microsoft Windows Installer ships as a part of Microsoft Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Me. It is provided via a service pack to Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT version 4.0.

To find out if Windows Installer is already installed on your system

  1. On the Start menu, click Run.
  2. In the Open box type "msiexec".
  3. Click OK.

If this command displays a message box from Windows Installer telling about an invalid command-line parameter, Windows Installer is already installed on your system. This message box also displays the version number of Windows Installer.

If this command displays the message that "msiexec"' was not found, Windows Installer is not installed on your system.
